![]() ![]() Farah’s escape from the Taliban and her journey to free-dom captured the hearts of Americans when her story was chosen by voters as the winner of ABC’s Good Morning America essay contest. There Farah labored into her teens as a virtual slave, until an opportu-nity to apply for refugee status brought the two of them to safety. After her legs were blown apart by a neglected land mine in Kabul at age 7, Farah found ways to not only survive, but eventually lead her Mom out of danger and into neighboring Pakistan.
